On the occasion of her first personal exhibition at the Nanzuka gallery in Tokyo, American artist Joyce Pensato has released her first bronze sculpture, Snowball Mickey. It is the Belgian team of Case Studyo who has created this edition, and this is probably one of their best piece to date. The sculpture is impressive, it has the size of a big bowling ball, 25x25x20cm. But the finish is really awesome because the dripping and dirty aspect of Joyce Pensato’s paintings is here magically turned into three dimensions. They have played with the black patina, which has been sanded to reveal the wide eyes of the character or the paint dripping, and we really have the feeling that this big Mickey head is melting. Also, we find the brutal & raw aspect of all these pop culture characters that the artist paints in a dark way, far away from those joyfull cartoons looked at a time when the society appeared happier. This sculpture is an edition of 25 (+4 AP) and is worth its weight in bronze, if you are interested may you contact asap Case Studyo or the Nanzuka gallery to find out if there are any left.
